I am a big fan of Yorgos Lanthimos. And Olivia Colman. And Rachel Weisz. (Not so much Emma Stone). However, I’m afraid I fell asleep about three-quarters of the way through watching The Favourite.
I’m not going to write a synopsis; The Adelaide Review has already done the work for me here plus it’s almost pumpkin time and my bed is waiting for me. All I will say is that The Favourite is a must see, but leave before the final scene.
What is, in fact, my favourite is Hecho en México, where my movie buddy – AZ – and I headed after trying to dissect the final scene of the movie. HeM is a small chain of so-called mexican restaurants. I say so-called because any “mexican” restaurant that has nachos on the menu isn’t really mexican, but rather tex-mex. However, HeM did have chilaquiles (the pre-cursor to nachos) on the menu which added a little bit of authenticity to the fare. We had chicken taquitos (also known as flautas and tacos dorados)and – because it was on the menu – nachos. I give them a thumbs up. Service was friendly and fast and with a couple of cokes thrown in the bill came to $35.
